Police stated they were notified by a individual who found a car in Hanau marked with reddish fluid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Police then found numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state early analysis indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for information.

A senior official stated the incident made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
