Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
